About the Project:
“Simp” is an artist’s book illustrated and handmade in New York City. Limited edition of 25, signed and numbered.
“Simp” is an original story about a young man who is desperate to get a girl off his mind after sending several unanswered texts. Our protagonist, Jack, can’t seem to catch a break as his well-intentioned Citibike adventure goes all wrong. Embarrassing or otherwise, the best stories come from personal experience.
The book is produced in the “board book” fashion popular for children’s books. Its distinct rounded corners, thick “pages”, and durable construction are part of a design approach that allows the work to be safely chewed on and thrown across the playroom by a toddler.
The book is comprised of six 0.08” board “tiles” with rounded edges, laminated with printed artwork using PVA adhesive. The pages themselves make up the book’s hinge points and provide all of the structure. Lastly, a piece of 0.02” card is laminated with a cover graphic and wrapped around the book. A 0.5” relief is left unglued, such that the book can open freely without cracking.
“Simp” features 8 original hand-painted acrylic illustrations by Bounty Archive. The images were professionally scanned (photographed with my iPhone) and printed on quality photo paper.
Please enjoy these images from the making of “Simp”.
